The Pacific

An area rich in biodiversity

You are here

The Pacific is sea and jungle

An ocean of wealth The Pacific lends its name to this region of western Colombia where black sand beaches are ideal for walks and for activities such as diving and whale watching

Divers in Malpelo and Gorgona understand the magnitude of biological wealth in our Pacific region; Nuquí, Bahia Solano and Utría are home to humpback whales and leatherback turtles.

The African roots of music played on instruments like the marimba chonta the guasá cununo are fundamental to the culture in the central Pacific where Currulao, bunde, the Juga and salsa all mix together.

An ancient tradition

The orange chontaduro fruit is characteristic of the Pacific, a region where stew, the lulada (a drink based on lulo) chicken and blancmange (a sweet made with milk) can be enjoyed.
