Church of La Ermita
The Church of La Ermita is the oldest in Popayán. Construction began in the early 17th century and the church is known for its high altar topped by a double-headed eagle, heraldic symbol of the Habsburgs. The main nave and the sacristy feature religious imagery from Quito, Spain, and Italy. The church was damaged during the 1983 earthquake, but has been completely restored.
