One of the most striking churches in Pasto is the Church of San Felipe Neri, whose interior is decorated by a series of altars and carved wood icons, products of the creativity and dedication of the craftsmen of Nariño. Its construction began in 1869 and its first Mass was held in 1903. The central Gothic-style altarpiece is 72 feet high.
