The history of the Temple of Our Lady of Mercy dates back to the early 17th century, when the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy arrived in Pasto and erected the temple. It was known throughout the Americas for its threshold, which is sustained by golden lions. It is the most frequently visited church in the city, as the venerated image of the Virgin of Mercy, Pasto’s patron saint, is kept in the church.
