Cocha means “lake” in Quechua. This 10,000-acre body of water is a kind of inland sea, with the island of Corota right in the middle. The lagoon can be explored by boat from the town of El Encano, which is full of Swiss-style homes adorned with flowers. The hotels in the area serve delicious smoked trout.
