At almost three miles above sea level, Cumbal is the largest volcano in southern Colombia, characterized by permanent gas emissions and plumes of ash. Its summit consists of several peaks that are volcanic domes constantly emitting sulfur fumes. On a clear day, you can see the ocean from the top of the volcano, and the grey La Bolsa Lagoon that lies at its feet.
