The neoclassical San Pedro Cathedral has endured the damage from several earthquakes; it underwent some restoration and is now a Cultural Asset of National Interest. Important representative paintings of the Quito school are displayed in this temple. Highlights include the central altar and images of the Fallen Christ and El Sagrario, dating from the eighteenth century.
