What to do in Barranquilla
Known as the Golden Gate of Colombia since the late nineteenth century it was an entranced for passengers and goods. Barranquilla was a pioneer of commercial aviation in 1919. The capital of the Atlántico displays republican architecture in the neighbourhood El Prado; also in its museums, beaches and festivals. In the surrounding area tourists can visit creeks, marshes and other natural attractions.
The Carnival of Barranquilla is not only the most important folk and cultural festival in Colombia, but also was designated by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Besides shining with this celebration, the city is an ideal destination for shopping and is a port where sailors from around the world dock their yachts and sailboats.
