The walled city, pride of Colombia

One of the most beloved Colombian sculptures lies behind the San Felipe Castle: a bronze sculpture of a pair of old shoes. It is quite common to see tourists climb in and take pictures of themselves inside the shoes. The artist Hector Lombana sculpted the shoes as a tribute to Luis Carlos López, the Cartagenero poet who became famous for the sonnet “To the old shoes".

This city is an open-air museum, but has more than just culture and history to offer. Cartagena is also a traveler destination for beaches, water sports, and crafts, among other things.
