The Coachmen’s Plaza, the former marketplace for the slave-trade, is the first place visitors encounter when crossing through the Gate and Clock Tower. Its portals shade pedestrian areas where newspapers, sweets, and other food are sold. Sweet delights such as panelitas, meringues, marshmallows, and coconut candies are sold at the Sweets Gate.
