The internal structure, consisting of 13,503 pieces of curly cumin wood, supports the roof of Our Lady of Poverty Cathedral and is one of its most striking features. This church, located on the west side of the Plaza de Bolívar, was built in 1890 and was elevated to a cathedral by Pope Pius XII in December 1952.
