Before becoming a theatre, Camarin del Carmen was a seventeenth century monastery and was home to the Barefoot Carmelites. After the nuns were expelled from the country by General Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera, the building served as a barracks and military hospital until 1880 Today it is a theatre with room for up to 500 spectators.
