WHY LIVE THIS EXPERIENCE IN COLOMBIA?
The story of a woman washing clothes on the banks of the Guadalajara River in the mid-16th century helped Buga gain an unexpected significance. As the story goes, this native laundress found a crucifix by the stream and watched it grow before her eyes. Thus began the city’s worship of the Lord of Miracles, depicted in an image visited by 3.5 million pilgrims every year.
Pope Pius XI granted the church the title of Basilica in 1937.
The Church is 260 feet long and 108 feet high.
Construction of the Basilica took 15 years.
