La Tierra de Aventura: San Gil & Barichara

Nicknamed "La Tierra de Aventura" or The Land of Adventure, the Santander region of Colombia lives up to its name. Located in the middle of the country, about six hours north of Bogota, this part of Colombia is known for its scenery - complete with deep canyons, raging rivers and majestic mountains.

When I attended the launch of Official Bloggers in the elegant De La Opera hotel in Bogota in February, I was almost certainly the oldest person present, even though I am only 51. Colombia is a country of young people and seems to attract travelers who are mostly twenty-something. There is a lot of entertainment and activities for the young in this country, but what does it have for those pushing or over forty, fifty, and beyond somethings? As one of "them," and as a resident of this splendid land, I proffer a series of articles that will help you navigate the areas that interest people like us! Chicaque Natural Park: A walk in the clouds

There's a natural park just 30 minutes outside of Bogotá where you can enjoy one of Colombia's most beautiful ecosystems. It's called Chicaque and it was founded in 1990 thanks to private conservation efforts. The most suprising (and saddest) fact is that only 4% of Colombia's "Andean Cloud Forest", like this one, still exists. Over the years people have destroyed it to clear land for grazing and growing potatoes.
