Among Colombia's most surprising foods are the hormiga culonas, literally 'big butt ants,' which are caught by the thousands during certain seasons in Santander province, near the Venezuelan border. Fried and salted, they taste crunchy and taste off...well, salt.
The hormigas were eaten by indigenous people. Now, they are a novelty food sold on plazas a few months each year. Oh, and they're supposed to be aphrodisiacs!
