You are here:
Wander onto almost any Bogotá plaza and you'll be struck by the multitude of pigeons. Love 'em or hate 'em - and lots of people do hate them - you can't miss them.
While some cities try to eliminate them, in Bogotá, pigeons are well-loved. You'll see people vending corn to visitors, who scatter the grains onto their arms and shoulders and pose with their feathered friends. In the Central Cemetery, where many tombs are believed to have miraculous powers, believers scatter rice and corn for the pigeons, who seem to add a mystical quality to the place.
