After five years of successful operation in Cartagena, Las Americas International Convention Center and Hotel is expanding to meet growing demand for its facilities and accommodations. The new, larger meeting space at the convention center, scheduled to open in August 2010, will have a main conference room with a capacity for 1,000 people, one big area for commercial exhibitions able to accommodate 130 booths, VIP rooms, storage rooms for exhibition material, operation areas for kitchens and restaurants, and two exterior plazas, both located on the first floor, so heavy machinery and big structures can be installed and larger parking spaces will be available.

The hotel expansion will include a new 10-floor building with 270 rooms, four regular swimming pools and one Olympic-size swimming pool, all on the top floor. The new hotel will offer two restaurants and three bars, including one sports bar with pool tables, one full-service bar on the 10th floor with spectacular 360-degree views of the city of Cartagena and the Caribbean Sea, and one beach bar with full service along the hotel’s oceanfront property. A gym will offer Pilates, spinning and aerobics on the third floor with an exclusive spa also located on this level.
A new business center will have three conference rooms and facilities for reunions, and there will be a heliport on the roof of the building. Two levels of rooms will be offered, including a standard room with a balcony and full bathroom with shower and tub, and a junior suite, with two full bathrooms, a social area and a bedroom.
