The Coffee Region: Panoramic Tour of Pereira

Pereira is a dynamic, vigorous city. At present, it is the fourth or fifth industrial development pole in the country, due in good part to its geographic location at the very center of the Andean Region and at the confluence of the country's main roadways.

The city has made an important investment in infrastructure; several urban developments are worth a visit.

Two examples are the César Gaviria Trujillo Viaduct that connects Pereira with the municipality of Dosquebradas over the Otún River; and the Megabús, Pereira’s new mass transport system.

The most interesting tourist sites are:

• the Plaza de Bolívar - the city’s main square – with the statue of Bolívar Desnudo (naked liberator Simón Bolívar);
• the Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Pobreza, an interesting architectural work made with a structure of wooden superimposed pieces;
• and the Museo Quimbaya del Oro y la Cerámica, sponsored by the country’s central bank.
• Additionally, there are beautiful open air landscapes and a nice zoo: Matecaña.
