The capital of the department of Quindío is characterized by intense commercial and tourist activity.

Armenia is the youngest department capital in Colombia. Its historic wealth is not as rich as the ones in other urban cities in the region, but this fact is offset by the beauty of its parks, guadua buildings, native flora, and numerous birds.

The Museo Quimbaya is very interesting: it operates in a building designed by award-winning architect Rogelio Salmona and exhibits an excellent sample of Pre-Columbian metal work and ceramics.
