Brick architecture route
The brick architecture route is homage to Rogelio Salmona, one of the most celebrated Latin American architects, whose work is characterized by the use of exposed brick.
The tour begins at La Candelaria with a visit to the Gabriel García Márquez Cultural Center. Then, in same section, visitors may go on to the national general archives and the Santa Fe housing complex. .
Still within the historic center, visitors can tour the environmental axis along the Avenida Jiménez, an important public space recovery project also designed by Salmona. North of the city center, the Museo de Arte Moderno, the Parque de la Independencia, and the Torres del Parque are displays of the work of the architect. He obtained the national architecture prize for the Torres del Parque, an apartment complex overlooking the bullfighting ring.
From there, visitors can go westward to the Universidad Nacional, where one of Salmona’s most representative works was built: the Human Sciences Postgraduate Studies Building.
The tour ends at the Biblioteca Virgilio Barco, one of the main libraries in the city, located near the Parque Metropolitano Simón Bolívar.
