Calle de Santa Fe de Antioquia

Street in Santa Fe de Antioquia

Visit western Antioquia, a magical land full of history and beautiful landscapes. On account of its location on the Central and Western Ranges of the Andes, the majesty of the Cauca River can be perceived in its entire splendor.

To arrive in the area, it is necessary to cross the Fernando Gómez Martínez Tunnel, with 4.6 km, the longest in Latin America. Along the way, there are many roadside tents at which to enjoy the large variety of the region’s fruits.

Numerous ecological parks and spots, with camping sites and wet zones near the Cauca River, are found in the municipalities of San Jerónimo and Sopetrán.

It is impossible not to visit the “Ciudad Madre”, or “Mother City”, Santa Fe de Antioquia, which was the first capital of the department of Antioquia. Its churches, colonial houses, cobblestone streets, museums, and hotels, keep their doors open for visitors to enter, admire, and listen to stories from past times. It is a veritable trip back to colonial times.

The “Puente de Occidente”, or “Western Bridge” rises over the Cauca River and connects the municipalities of Santa Fe de Antioquia and Olaya. This hanging bridge was built between 1887 and 1895 and was declared a National Monument in 1978.
