  • Wear light, cotton clothing: the climate is warm and humid.
  • Always wear sports shoes (there are several trails to be walked).
  • If you want to walk across the (razor-sharp) corals, you can buy shoes on the island to protect your feet.

Taxes:

  • An entry tax is payable upon arrival.
  • You will be asked to show your tax receipt if you go across to Providencia.

On the island

  • On the first day, go round the island to familiarize yourself with it. It takes about an hour.
  • If you want to spend longer at some particular place, the best way to get around is on a motorbike or golf-cart.
  • There are tourist packages or tours for activities such as bird-watching, diving, night-life, visits to ecotourism parks etc.

Health:

  • Use mosquito repellent.
  • Always use a sunblocker.
  • Don´t buy or eat seafood on launches – rather, eat on dry land and in restaurants. This helps to ensure that food is fresh and won´t intoxicate you.

Nature:

  • Don´t buy thinks made from conch or turtle shells or other natural materials.
  • Don´t remove flora or fauna from the islands.
  • Check on which species is not in season; avoid eating them even if offered.
