The Seminar will allow the inclusion of the Northern Valle region in the international cooperation project that is being implemented by Fórum Natura and the Community of Madrid (Spain), with the National Learning Service (SENA, by its Spanish acronym) as a local counterpart.
On August 20, 2009, the Cartago Mayor’s Office and International Fórum Natura will hold the First International Workshop on Rural Tourism of the 18 municipalities in Northern Valle. Dr. Arturo Crosby will preside the seminar.
The seminar is an extremely important event for the region of Northern Valle. Its main objective is to create a competitive rural destination that will unite the efforts of the various municipalities involved and to serve as a model at the national and supra-regional levels.
The meeting will help the region’s municipalities to understand the importance of tourism as a tool for local development that improves the quality of life of the population, generates new jobs, increases per capita income, attracts investment, recovers and regenerates natural and cultural heritage, and, naturally, builds a sustainable, competitive destination that will position the region in the national and international markets.
The state of the various processes of tourism development in Northern Valle will be examined during the event. On this occasion, the debate will focus on the analysis of possible strategies for the integration of the region´s tourist sector, advances and perspectives in regard to protected areas, and ecotourism, as well as on the proposal of actions that will contribute to conservation and sustainable development policies.
