Winners of the Route of the Flavors of María Gastronomical Contest in Valle del Cauca

The Route of the Flavors of María Gastronomical Contest launched in March 2009 in the Department of Valle del Cauca to award innovation, preparation, taste, and relation of the dish to the Department’s cuisine has selected its winners.

Thirty two dishes from vallecaucana cuisine were presented.

Fifteen restaurants and eleven lodgings showed the most exquisite dishes of their offers in several categories that were judged by a national jury.

Members of the jury were chef Carlos Ordóñez; gastronomic advisor Sonia Serna; historian and researcher Soffy Arboleda; the general editor of Catering Magazine, Adriana García; journalist Liliana Martínez from the culture and gastronomy section of El Tiempo newspaper; the trade director of Cotelco’s Vivir y Viajar magazine, Liliana Martínez; and the editor general of La Barra magazine, Gabriel Pineda.

Winners in the restaurant category were the following:

Typical Cuisine

Caña Dulce Restaurant Offal Casserole (Tablones township, Municipality of Palmira).

Ancestral Cuisine

Fish Fiambre (cold cuts) from El Rancho de Margoth (Guabas township, Municipality of Guacarí). Owner: Margarita Arango.

Traditional Cuisine

Destino Paraíso Stew from Los Guaduales Restaurant (road to Costa Rica, Municipality of Ginebra). Owner: Jesús Hernando Cuevas.

Honorable Mention in Culinary Craftmanship

Tentempié de Mariaé from El Recuerdo Restaurant (Santa Elena township, Municipality of El Cerrito). Owner: María Elena Moreno.

Best Vallecaucano Snacks

Chuyaco (a beverage) from the Asociación de Mecateras Vallecaucanas El Cerrito. Snack maker: Elida Escobar.

In the category of lodgings with gastronomical offerings, the winners were:

First Place

Pandebono Soup from Casa de Las Palmas (Municipality of Ginebra). Owner: Ayda Mary Saavedra.

Second Place

Los Alpes Seafood Rice (La Buitrera township, Municipality of Palmira).

Honorable Mention

Frutos del Paraíso Green Beans (Costa Rica township, Municipality of Ginebra). Owner: Orbelia Baraona.
