This upcoming May, Cartagena will welcome 70 meeting and event planners, 35 of which are from the United States and 35 from around the world, for the Interact Global event by M&C, Meetings & Conventions Magazine. From May 3rd to the 6th, planners will attend meetings and seminars as well as visit the city’s major tourist sites. After the conference, 12 of the planners will visit Bogota, where they will experience first-hand the cultural and gastronomic activities the city offers.
The event focuses on providing quality education that will help planners’ performance. It will also serve as a networking opportunity for invited planners and buyers. The amenities and event venues found in Cartagena make it an ideal environment for business opportunities.
Meetings & Conventions magazine has been helping meeting and event planners in corporations, associations, incentive houses and independent planning companies excel at their jobs and effectively manage their careers in annual Interact Global conventions. This year, Proexport’s efforts were the driving force for the company’s decision to host the event in Cartagena.
“Without Proexport this event wouldn’t take place,” mentioned Kirk Lewis, M&C Publisher. “We want all planners to walk away having learned something new for their jobs and to discover something new about Colombia as a destination for their next international events.”
Lewis added that “the education provided, the assistance given with local partners, and the 100% involvement” were factors that contributed to make this the best event ever.
Cartagena is one of the only urban areas around the world that is still surrounded by its original thick walls, once intended to keep pirates from this South American port. Today, the city hosts global meetings and conventions and welcomes several cruise ships and leisure travelers. Disney, Princess, Holland and Celebrity Cruises all call on Cartagena’s port. In addition, major luxury hotels, such as Sofitel, Hilton and Sonesta, which have properties in the city, offer more than 2,300 luxury rooms and 1,200 deluxe rooms.
It is no wonder the city booked as many meetings as New York City in 2009. For more information about meetings, incentive trips, conventions and events, contact your local Proexport tourism advisor or visit www.colombia.travel/en/mice/why-colombia
