Casa del Arzobispado is in the center of the walled city, just behind the Cathedral, 10 minutes from the airport.

The house was built in the 17th century and belonged to Antonio José de Ayos, a hero of the Wars of Independence who placed a leading part in the liberation of Cartagena.

At the end of the 19th century, this house passed to the Maineros family and became an important center of trade – it is close to the customs office on Plaza de la Aduana – until in 2002 it was restored and put into service as a boutique hotel.

A walk around it will evoke the days when the Church placed a leading role in the structure and organization of Spanish Colonial society.

There are imposing figures and Works of religious art everywhere here, and they lend the house a particular style, with its own particular charm.

The decoration is impeccable, and luxury and harmony are the hallmark of this entire house and all its past mysteries. “Our hotel welcomes anyone who enjoys the charms of Cartagena, senses its history and recognizes it as a fascinating tourist destination”, says Diego José Martínez-Narváez, Manager of Casa del Arzobispado.

There are ten comfortable, quiet and attractive rooms with an amazing view of the old city skyline, dotted with domes, and the staff are there only to please our guests. An unforgettable experience in a hotel of one’s dreams.

Casa del Arzobispado also offers a treat outside its walls, a magic moment, in the restaurant on the Bastion of San Francisco Javier, Calle San Juan de Dios.

Here, time stands still as you gaze out over the walls into the enchanted night, listening to the murmur of the sea as you enjoy the delights of one of Cartagena’s finest kitchens.

“In Cartagena, each hotel has its own personality and its own magic. Casa del Arzobispado has its own history, its own details, its own service. Our service is different: we create magic, because we want our guests to feel at home”, says Diego José.
