This hotel is on Estanco del Tabaco street in the center of the walled city. A modest, almost mysterious place, it offers a genuine experience of the Colombian Caribbean.
The earliest records of the history of the house go back to about 1830 in Cartagena’s archives; but it was most probably built some time earlier, in the late 18th century.
The house belonged to the same house for five generations, and history tells of a love story which apparently went sour, but we know no details.
At all events, this one-time mansion, now the hotel, was at some point abruptly split into two parts and became the setting of a separation and transformation of memories of times past.
Originally the house was in the Spanish colonial style, but later took on the look of an early Republican construction and now is an interesting hybrid, which keeps both elements of the past, with some feeling for balance, with vibrant colors and shades.
In 2006 work began on an architectural restoration, and two years later the La Passion Hotel was able to open its doors.
“The paintwork, the doors, the floors and the Windows are original, nothing was restored. The house now reflects the architecture and culture of the”, says Liliana Acosta, Manager of La Passion Hotel.
The hotel has eight beautifully decorated rooms that match the magic of color and history. It’s a perfect place for lovers, for feeling at home, for enjoying the delights of local dishes.
One of the most attractive features of La Passion is its terrace. Sit there, look out over the timeless walled, sink into the peaceful splendor of the sky over Cartagena.
“We have been recognized as an authentic, original hotel with its own personality. It makes us different and that means that we want to continue to offer our guests the best of Cartagena”, says Liliana.
