The Medellín Marathon is the oldest sports competition in Colombia. In 2019 it turns 25 years old. It has four distances 42K, 21K, 10K and 5K. During these 25 years athletes from more than 100 countries have run in the competition, with elite and recreational participants from Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Kenya, Belgium, Ecuador, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Spain, Kenya, Russia, Panama, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Belgium, United States, Angola, Australia, Great Britain, Poland, Uruguay, Bolivia, Afghanistan, Germany, Cuba, Slovakia, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Italy, Dominican Republic, Ireland, Guatemala, India, Chile, Puerto Rico, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Mexico and Nicaragua, among others. The Medellin Marathon has the recognition of international organizations such as the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), is an active member of the International Marathon Association (AIMS), is endorsed by the Colombian Athletics Federation and is qualifier for the Boston Marathon, the oldest 42K athletic event in the world.
